Whitney Stone
Ms. Whitney Stone hails from the picturesque town of Sylva, North Carolina, where she spent her formative years and graduated from Smoky Mountain High School in 2003. Her journey into the world of performance and color guard began early, as she spent eight years dancing with a local studio during her youth. She was also a dedicated flutist and a member of her high school band. It was during her sophomore year that she first stepped into the colorful realm of color guard, ultimately completing six seasons—four of which she proudly served as Guard Captain.
Following high school, Whitney’s passion for performance led her to the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, where she marched from 2003 to 2007. She served as captain during the 2006/2007 season, a highlight of her performance career. That same year, the Carolina Crown guard earned 2nd place at DCI and came remarkably close to winning the prestigious Zingali Award.
Whitney also marched with the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band at Western Carolina University from 2003 to 2005, serving as co-captain in 2005. Her winter guard experience included seasons with The Study IW (2004–2005) and First Flight IO (2006).
After relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana, Whitney joined the prestigious Pride of Cincinnati, where she marched in 2007 as they captured a WGI World Championship title, and in 2008 when they earned a silver medal. In 2009, with Pride of Cincinnati not competing, she marched with Zydeco IW and went on to teach with the group from 2011 to 2013.
Throughout her career, Whitney has taught and directed a wide range of highly successful programs. Her work includes time with Carmel High School (2012 BOA Grand National Champion, ISSMA State Champion; 2013 BOA Silver Medalist, IHSCGA State Champion, and WGI Silver Medalist), Center Grove High School, Northview HS, Lawrence Central HS, Greenfield Central HS, Decatur Central HS, and New Palestine HS. Her experience also extends to top-tier drum and bugle corps, including the Troopers (2009 DCI Finalists), Crossmen (2012–2017), and the Madison Scouts (2014). She has contributed her expertise across Indiana and Ohio.
In Texas, Whitney has taught and directed programs at Round Rock High School, Austin High School, Lake Travis, Vista Ridge, Anderson, Cedar Ridge, Hendrickson, Hebron, Moe and Gene Johnson, Westwood, Brazoswood, Marcus, Hutto High School, as well as the ATX and Origins Winter Guards.
In addition to her work in the performing arts, Whitney is also a licensed cosmetologist, having earned her degree from Paul Mitchell The School in 2010. Her skills have been utilized in hair and makeup design for many of the groups she has worked with, including Pride of Cincinnati during their 2013 WGI World Championship season.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Whitney is a devoted animal lover. She regularly donates to animal welfare causes and provides care to any animal in need. She currently shares her home with two cats, three dogs, and two ball pythons.
Ms. Stone is thrilled to bring her passion, experience, and leadership to the BHS Color Guard and looks forward to working closely with the team and their families.
