Shawn McAnear
Shawn McAnear is in his twenty-eighth year of teaching and his sixth year as Director of Bands at Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Southwest Texas State University and a master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University. Shawn serves as the Director of Bands and conducts the Wind Symphony, Concert Band, and the Marching Band. His bands at Bridgeland and Cypress Falls have been a consistent UIL Sweepstakes award winner, 8-time UIL State Marching Band Contest Participant, 12-time BOA Regional Finalist, and Best in Class at festivals in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Corpus Christi. As a percussionist, he has taught throughout Texas. Under his direction, the Cypress Falls Percussion Ensemble was invited and performed at PASIC 2004 and at the Bands of America National Percussion Festival. The ensemble was named a 4-time Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) Concert World Class Champion and 2-time Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional Concert World Class Champion. The indoor drumline was the 2000 WGI World Championships ‘A’ Class bronze medalist, a WGI Regional Champion, and a 2-time TCGC Marching Champion. Shawn is also an active adjudicator and clinician for various schools throughout the country. He is a member of TMEA, TBA and a Conn-Selmer Education Division VIP. His wife of 38-years, Melissa, is the Director of Business Services for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. They have two boys, Mason a senior Engineering Major at Texas A&M University and Braden a sophomore Architecture Major at Oklahoma State University.
