Chris Nguyen is an educator, adjudicator, and marching arts designer based in the Northwest Houston area. He currently serves as the Percussion Director/Assistant Band Director at Bridgeland High School, a position he has held since the school’s opening. With over a decade of teaching experience, his duties include overseeing the 6–12th grade percussion curriculum, teaching and designing for the Fall Marching Band and Indoor Percussion programs, directing percussion ensembles, teaching beginner percussion classes, aiding junior high concert bands, and assisting with all five high school concert bands.
Chris has helped lead the Bridgeland High School Band to become a two-time 6A UIL State Finalist, a 2024 Bands of America Grand National Finalist, and a two-time Bands of America San Antonio Super Regional Finalist. The Bridgeland High School Indoor Percussion program has earned three WGI Percussion Scholastic World Class Finals appearances, including a Silver Medal in PSW at the 2025 WGI World Championships, and is a two-time TCGC Scholastic World Class State Champion. Additionally, the Salyards Middle School Percussion Ensemble was invited to the 2022 Midwest Clinic, becoming the first percussion ensemble from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD to receive the honor.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Texas A&M University before pursuing his Music Education degree at Sam Houston State University. His marching experience includes performing with DCI and WGI organizations such as the Oregon Crusaders, Phantom Regiment, and Monarch Independent. While at SHSU, he spent three summers at the Aspen Music Festival and School, where he focused on orchestral percussion.
Professionally, Chris is affiliated with the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Percussive Arts Society. He proudly partners with Marimba One, Remo Inc., Vic Firth, and The Avedis Zildjian Company.
